The Home of the Free
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's plans to get 50,000 immigrants into Detroit to help save the local economy. While getting large numbers of people off the plane and onto American streets is a win-win situation for both the country and the immigrants, the governor is only asking for "preferred allocation", which means allowing immigrants to cut in line if they are willing to live in Detroit. Rather than helping more immigrants get into the country, this policy makes most STEM immigrants wait longer to get into our country. This is essentially punishing the immigrants who do not want to live in slums by making them wait longer. The policy also rewards those who want to quickly get into the country with residence in the most run-down and crime-ridden cities in the U.S.A. We need to open our borders wider to these highly-skilled and employable people who want to help move our country forward.

I agree. This nation was built by immigrants. Everyone has immigrant heritage somewhere and it is disappointing that we aren't being more open with our borders to some of those passionate families and individuals who could really help us to progress.
